14th June 2025 (Sat), 8pm @ The Monument Music Academy, Melaka
The opening event of the festival is a piano recital by Portuguese pianist Bernardo Santos, bringing the works of Beethoven, Liszt, Fragoso, Villa-Lobos and Copland. Reflecting on his Portuguese heritage, Santos will also perform bold and artistic works such as the four evocative miniatures by Antรณnio Fragoso.
These gems - ranging from the playful Valsa Ingenua to the restless energy of Inquietude - offer a rare glimpse into early 20th-century Portuguese piano music, brought to life with warmth and nuance. Also featured is Villa-Lobosโs vibrant Bachianas no. 4, where Brazilian rhythms and Bach-inspired melodies intertwine in a suite brimming with lyricism and dance.
